#1.   The Fisher and Hattori families at the Yokohama Kanoedai missionary residence in 1928. Mrs. Natsu Hattori (in the middle of the photo) became the "helper" for the McDaniel family from 1958-1961 and again from 1966-1969.   Here is a photo of her after she retired. She was wonderful Christian women whom we loved dearly.

#47.   "Mutsura-3": Doris McDaniel and guests on a Sunday afternoon. The father in this photo was one of my students in an English class I taught. When he told me in English that he had a "grand piano" in his home, I corrected him to say that he had a "big piano" in his home because a "grand piano" referred to a "large concert piano." During this Sunday visit his daughter played on our old upright piano. For a ten year old muscian she was fantastic, fantastic, fantastic -- playing from memory the works of Chopin, Bach, and others. Her father was indeed correct when he said he had a "grand piano" in his home! I stood corrected for his daughter's piano was indeed a "grand piano." Within a matter of weeks I attended at his invitation a recital in Tokyo where his daughter was one of the featured artist. This experience proved the point: teachers are not always right.
